Revolution of 1857 is not the first freedom struggle

The Revolution of 1857 was the first major struggle for independence. It was a mutiny by Indian soldiers of the Company forces and was helped by a number of local kings and queens.
But the Indians had been struggling for independence for a long while, but all those struggles were localised. In 1857 all those yearnings for independence came together for the first time and people wanted to fight against the British for the whole country, not just their own little piece of the country.
